Drum Tao 2020 Livestream Direct from the MAC
DRUM TAO 2020On Saturday, Mar. 14, 7p, in lieu of live performances at the MAC, we hosted a livestream of the acclaimed Drum Tao 2020 Taiko Drummers from Japan. The word "taiko" is from the Japanese word meaning "fat drum." We thank everyone who helped make this livestream a reality as the MAC recognizes the need for public safety. Thank you to College of DuPage, Columbia Artists, National Endowment for the Arts, Arts Midwest, and the incredible performers who graced our stage that night. It Was A Rebellion has been in development for three years. An early version was performed as a pirate radio broadcast at Homan Square, a former Chicago Police Department black site. It mixes music from the Civil Rights Era and the Black Panther Party, news reports and political speeches, and ephemeral and symbolic sounds to articulate public expressions of Black rage.
It Was A Rebellion (House Mix) plays on the political roots of Black with a Chicago-style dance party vibe.
Cameron Esposito's memoir Save Yourself is a hilarious “queer-as-hell” story of how she came out and found comedy.
