Roble y Flamboyán (Quarantine Version)
Original Chicago plena single by Los Pleneros de Don Segundo. Conceived at Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC) in the Hermosa neighborhood of Chicago in 2017 when Hurricane María ravaged Puerto Rico, it has changed throughout the years because of its universal theme and the possibility of adapting it to different historic moments. "Soy más duro que el roble y el flamboyán" (I'm stronger than oak, stronger than my flamboyán tree) now recorded in social distance, in the context of keeping the arts alive during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Submitted by Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC) from Chicago.

It Was A Rebellion has been in development for three years. An early version was performed as a pirate radio broadcast at Homan Square, a former Chicago Police Department black site. It mixes music from the Civil Rights Era and the Black Panther Party, news reports and political speeches, and ephemeral and symbolic sounds to articulate public expressions of Black rage.
It Was A Rebellion (House Mix) plays on the political roots of Black with a Chicago-style dance party vibe.

This piece illustrates that balance for me between my Mexican roots, my love for the jazz tradition and western classical music.
