The Transformative Power of Music
Our Conservatory piano students came together this past weekend to perform a series of BEAUTIFUL duets. Here's one of our favorite videos from the concert. BRAVISSIMO to all of our young pianists! #meritmakesmusic #musiceducationmatters

The past few weeks have been truly extraordinary. The situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic changes not daily, but hourly.
Yet, through it all, the power of music has been undeniable — at times such as these, the transformative power of music cuts through the fear and uncertainty.
Music sustains community. Its beauty shines, its accessibility to all remains, and it’s a never-ending inspiration for learning and growing.
Here are four videos from the past few months that remind us of the transformative power of music:
- Merit’s Conservatory piano students coming together for a beautiful duet concert (highlighted above)
- Merit’s Suzuki-Alegre Strings ensemble partnering with Ballet Chicago
- Merit alum Marquis Hill leading an inspiring masterclass with Honors Jazz Combo
- Merit’s celebrated Pagenta String Quartet preparing for public performances

Marquis Hill visited Merit today to host a masterclass for Conservatory jazz students ahead of Monday's Play On concert at City Winery Chicago. What an AMAZING experience for these young musicians to work with this incredible trumpeter and proud Merit alum. There are still a few tix left to see Marquis, Alexis Lombre, and Merit's Conservatory Jazz Combo perform during Play On. Snag yours at www.meritmusic.org/playon #meritmade #musiceducationmatters
